Dear Expectant Mother,

We are grateful for this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you and share our excitement about becoming parents through adoption. We admire your courage and strength in considering an adoption plan for your child, and can only imagine what a difficult decision this must be for you. We are warm, loving people who deeply value personal growth and community, education, the arts and nature. We love learning and exploring the world, but most of all, being close with friends and family. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us.

Our Story and Our Values

It was Christmas Eve 2002, when we met in New York City, and soon discovered how connected we were: We shared a passion for creativity, had grown up in New Jersey with similar family backgrounds and values, graduated from college with similar studies, and even had the same dream to move to California. We knew we found our soulmates in one another and celebrated with an outdoor autumn wedding four years ago. We moved to a beautiful town just north of San Francisco where we are excited to start a family.

Our favorite things include: family and friends, living a healthy lifestyle, the outdoors, music, dancing, sports, and traveling. We love to laugh and have fun, while also being serious about our careers and responsibilities. We are kind and caring people who embrace compassion and believe in honesty and integrity. We see life as a journey in which we are all connected and are here to help one another.

Joel on Susan:

Susan is the most fun-loving person I’ve ever met! I knew she was the one for me when I saw the openhearted way she related to children. She dives right in—playing games and sports, making crafts and art projects. Susan has a gift for seeing the world through the eyes of a child. She’s creative and intuitive and very thoughtful. I have absolute confidence that she will be a wonderful, patient and loving mother.

Whether it’s throwing a party or finding a special gift, Susan makes everybody around her feel special. She lights up the room with her smile and puts people at ease with her humor. Susan has many interests – from swimming and yoga, to healthy cooking -- and loves to combine travel with learning something new; she earned her yoga teaching certificate in India and spent three months traveling in India and Nepal.

Professionally, Susan is a successful healthcare public relations consultant, who works out of her home office. Her true passion is helping people improve their lives and she does this as a yoga teacher, yoga therapist, and holistic health and nutrition counselor.

Susan on Joel:

Early on in our relationship, I went to a party with Joel for his then three-year-old niece’s birthday. Joel was the party musician, and I watched him play guitar to a room full of toddlers and their parents. He was so lively, silly and fun that all the kids were staring at him with mouths wide open, completely enchanted with his singing. When he broke out the animal finger puppets during Old MacDonald Had a Farm, that’s when I knew he’d be a great father.

Joel is a gifted songwriter and guitarist, and has performed on stage with famous musicians; he also can be found singing his own silly tunes around the house! Professionally, Joel is a successful market research executive, where he handles international sales and client relations. He also has worked in the publishing industry -- ask him about any book and he will be able to tell you all about it!

I have never met anyone more patient than Joel. He is totally accepting and welcomes whatever the situation may be without judgment. He is kind and loving, and is very supportive of everyone in his life. Joel is my sweetheart and I am blessed to have such a devoted husband, who I know will be the most special daddy to a child.

We believe in giving back to the community, and want our children and all children to have a safe, healthy world in which to live. After the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, Susan created a yoga program that offered free classes throughout New York City for people traumatized by the events. Following Hurricane Katrina, we went to New Orleans to help rebuild schools so local children could return to their classrooms.

Our Family, Friends & Adoption:

We are close with our families and have many special friends. We feel it is important to celebrate the good times as well as support loved ones through the harder times. We look forward to teaching our child to be a thoughtful and kind person, respectful towards all people, animals and nature.

Our parents were good role models; they supported our interests, provided us with stimulating experiences, and encouraged our passions. Books and education were a top priority, as both of Joel’s parents and Susan’s mother were college professors. Susan’s father, a retired attorney, encouraged her to pursue the business world.

Our family and friends are all excited about our plans to adopt, and can’t wait to welcome the new member of our family. Several of our friends are adopted, and we are blessed to have so much support, enthusiasm, and encouragement from people who love us and will love our child.

Our Home:

We live in a lovely home in a quiet, safe and family-friendly neighborhood just outside of San Francisco. Our home is surrounded by lots of trees, and even a small lake with ducks and water birds, which our little pooch, Barney, loves to watch. We feel like we’re out in the country, and yet we can walk to parks, the market, and even to the ferry boat that takes Joel to his San Francisco job.

And Finally…

Above all, the most important thing we want you to know is that your child will be loved unconditionally. We have the heart and the means to provide a healthy, nurturing and stable home for your child, while ensuring that he or she will always know of your courageous and selfless act of love.
